Meet our Teachers

Elementary

Anastasia Armatas, Teacher

Mrs. Anastasia (Stacy) Armatas is a 5th grade teacher who joined Colorado Preparatory Academy in 2015. She brings more than 13 years’ experience to online education having previously taught special education in the virtual setting. She spent 4 years teaching in the brick and mortar setting in 2nd, 4th, and 5th grades in Massachusetts, Washington, and Colorado. Mrs. Armatas earned a MA in Education from the University of Washington. She holds certificates in English and Special Education.

Nicole Baker, Teacher

Mrs. Baker is the K-5th grade English Language Learner teacher who joined the K12 team in 2017. Nicole earned a BA in Education from the University of Northern Colorado with an endorsement in Elementary K-6 Education and an endorsement in Culturally Linguistically Diverse Education.

Naomi Banta, Interventionist

Mrs. Banta is a K-5 interventionist who joined the K12 team in 2018. She brings over 20 years in experience in education including tutoring and private school reading intervention. Naomi earned a dual BS in special education and generalist K-6 from Western Governors University, and an interventionist MA from UNC.

Alisa Bell, Teacher

Ms. Bell is a 3rd grade teacher who joined CPA in 2016. She has over 9 years of experience as a teacher, teaching assistant, and learning coach. She has BAs in French and Liberal Arts and Sciences, and an MA in Elementary Education.

Christine Bishop, Teacher

Mrs. Bishop is a Kindergarten teacher who joined the K12 team in 2016. She brings 10 years of experience in elementary education. Christine earned a MA in Elementary Education from the University of Colorado. Christine is also endorsed in Gifted and Talented education.

Heather Flint, Interventionist

Mrs. Flint is a K-3 Intervention teacher who joined the K12 team in 2018. She brings 24 years’ experience in education. Heather earned a BA in Education from University of Northern Iowa and an MA in Education from Adams State College. She holds a certificate in Elementary Education.

Brady Goode, Teacher

Mrs. Gray is a 2nd grade teacher who joined K12 in 2018. She graduated from Palm Beach Atlantic University in 2014 with a Bachelor's in Elementary Education. This is her fifth year teaching, four of which have been in second grade, and one year in fourth grade.

Lisa Herold, Teacher

Lisa Martinez, Teacher

Mrs. Martinez is a 5th grade teacher who joined Colorado Preparatory Academy in 2017. She brings more than 25 years’ experience in elementary education. Lisa holds a M.Ed. in Reading Education from Grand Canyon University, and a MS in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Colorado-Denver.

Megan Olson, Teacher

Mrs. Olson is the third-grade teacher. She has taught second through fifth grade at CPA. She has also been a reading interventionist. Mrs. Olson taught in her local area for seven years at both the elementary and secondary levels. She earned her BA in Elementary Education as well as Special Education from Metropolitan State University in Denver, Colorado through their dual-licensure program. She also has her Master’s in Special Education from Grand Canyon University. She has taught online now for four years at various grade levels. She loves to continually take professional development courses and online trainings to continue to enhance her skills and knowledge to better prepare her students for future learning endeavors. She also loves to use her special education expertise with her general education class for she understands not all students learn the same way or need the same type of support.

Christianna Shelhamer, Teacher

Joanne Stanton, Teacher

Mrs. Stanton is a 4th grade teacher and elementary school lead teacher who joined Colorado Preparatory Academy in 2017. Prior to CPA, she was a teacher, lead teacher and interim assistant principal with Texas Virtual Academy. She has over nine years’ experience with K12 managed schools. Joanne has a BS in Electrical Engineering and MS in Administration. She holds certificates in Elementary Education and 7-12 Social Studies.

Middle School

Kimberly Bohl, Teacher

Ms. Bohl is a 6th grade history teacher and 6th, 7th, and 8th grade music teacher who joined CPA in 2016. She has 15 years’ experience in education. She earned a BME in K-12 Music Education from the University of Northern Colorado, and an MA in Literacy from the University of Northern Colorado. She holds teaching licenses in K-12 Vocal, Piano, and General Music, as well as K-6 Elementary Education.

Heather Coble, Teacher

Ms. Coble is a 6th grade earth science teacher and middle school lead teacher. She began her K12 career as a middle school art teacher in 2016 and has since moved into the science teacher and lead teacher positions. Heather graduated from Western State Colorado University in 2015 with dual Master’s degrees in Teacher Leadership, and K-12 Online Teacher Leadership. Heather is licensed in K-6 General Education, and K-12 Visual Art. During her career, Heather has worked with all age groups ranging from kindergarten to college.

Barbara-Lynn Concienne, Teacher

Ms. Concienne is a middle school science teacher. She has taught earth science, life science, and physical science over the last 4 years with K12. She brings more than 25 years’ experience working with youth in scouting and Life Teen youth group, and over ten years of teaching science. Barbara-Lynn received a BA degree with honors from University of Colorado majoring in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and minoring in Geography. She received an MA degree from Colorado University in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. She holds a certificate in Theology of the Body and Habits of the Mind.

Melany Dunivan, Math Teacher

Mrs. Dunivan is a 7th grade math teacher who started teaching online using the K12 curriculum in 2010. She has been teaching math for 15 years and she earned her degree in Mathematics from Metro State College of Denver.

Debby Fox-Buxton, Teacher

Daniel Gryboski, Math Teacher

Mr. Dan Gryboski has taught 6th grade math at Colorado Preparatory Academy since 2016. Before he landed at K12, he taught high school and college math for 14 years. His early career began as an engineer, helping airports install their automated trains. Dan earned his BA in Mathematics and Computer Science from Colorado College, and his MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Colorado.

Katelyn Leinweber, Teacher

Angie Johnson, Teacher

Mrs. Johnson is an English teacher who joined the K12 team in 2018. She brings 15 years of experience in education, having taught a variety of courses including speech, debate, acting, literature, science fiction, and composition. Mrs. Johnson spent most of her teaching career in traditional schools and spent three years teaching at the university level. Mrs. Johnson holds a BA in English from Georgetown College, a MEd from Lesley University in Educational Technology, and a MAT in English Education from the University of Northern Colorado. She holds a Colorado Professional License in English for grades 7-12 and is highly qualified to teach English at the community college level.

Ashley Matsen, Math Teacher

Mrs. Matsen is an 8th grade math teacher for CPA. She has 4 years teaching experience, and has taught in 6th and 7th grades as well as high school and as an adjunct professor for Illinois Valley Community College. At Aurora University she earned her BA in Elementary Education with a minor in Mathematics, for which she holds a certificate.

Jill Montoya, Teacher

Mrs. Montoya joined the K12 team in 2017 as a part time English Language Development teacher. She works with students in grades 6, 7, and 8 who have spoken another language other than English. She has taught kindergarten through 8th grade in brick and mortar schools for over 24 years. In addition, she has been teaching online for the past twelve years in teacher prep programs at local colleges and universities. She has a passion for teaching and earned her Master's degree in Language, Literacy, and Culture with endorsements in Early Childhood Education and English as a Second Language. She has also taught in Jefferson and Douglas County school districts in Colorado.

Mrs. Ramirez is an 8th grade English teacher who joined CPA in 2017. She brings 11 years of teaching experience, with six of those years being online. Mrs. Ramirez earned her BA in English Education from Metropolitan State College of Denver.

High School

Andrea Allinger, English Teacher

Mrs. Allinger is a 12th grade English teacher who joined the K12 team in 2016. She brings experience in English education as well as English as a second language education as her roots in teaching began in South Texas. Andrea earned a BA in English from Texas State University and continues to pursue a Master's degree in writing in the near future. She loves teaching to her core, from reading a variety of texts with her students to composing essays and getting to know her students throughout the year.

Kimberly Ashby, History Teacher

Mrs. Ashby, is a history teacher who joined the K12 team in 2018. She brings almost 10 years of teaching experience with her. Kim has a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction in Secondary Social Studies from the University of Colorado at Denver.

Alexandra Burns, Math Teacher

Mrs. Burns is a high school math teacher who joined CPA in 2015. Alexandra earned her BS in Biochemistry from University of Washington and her Master in Teaching from Seattle University with endorsements in mathematics, general science, and chemistry. Her education career started in the Seattle area in 2002 and she's taught all levels of math from pre-algebra to AP calculus and even a little chemistry. In her free time Mrs. Burns enjoys spending time with her husband and sons, being outdoors, and reading.

Melissa Carpenter, Teacher

Melissa Carpenter is the Testing Coordinator for the Colorado K12 schools. She joined the K12 team in 2014. She was most recently the electives high school teacher for Colorado Preparatory Academy. Melissa earned a BS in Physical Education from Clearwater Christian College and a MS in Sports Management from Missouri Baptist University. She is currently working on completing her Principal License from Colorado State University. She has 14 years of teaching experience as a PE/Health teacher in the private and public school settings for K-12 grade.

Rachel Gonzalez Macea, Science Teacher

Mrs. Gonzalez Macea is a science teacher who joined K12 in 2018. She has been teaching science for over ten years. Mrs. Gonzalez Macea received her BS in Molecular Biology from University of Denver in 2006, and her M.Ed. from Regis University in 2009. She hold certification in both secondary science and STEM.

Amber Hutchinson, Language Arts Teacher

Mrs. Hutchinson is a high school Language Arts teacher that has been with K12 schools since 2013. She has been in education for over 10 years and has a BA from the University of Montana in Secondary Education and an MA in Educational Leadership with an emphasis in Linguistically Diverse Education from the University of Colorado Denver. She was also a part of the 2009 Cohort for Teach for America, during which time she earned her Elementary Certification. She holds certifications in Elementary Education, Linguistically Diverse Education, and English Language Arts. She is working on getting her certification in Art Education.

Mr. Kreitzer has been with K12 powered schools since 2011. Tyler holds a Master’s degree in Instructional Technology. He brings over 17 years teaching experience to the table.

Matthew Moore, Teacher

Mr. Moore has six years of international teaching experience, including in England, Thailand and Bolivia. He has 10 years’ experience working with English as a Second Language students. Matthew is certified in AP World History Seminar, holds a MA in Education from the University of New Mexico, a MA in Economics from the University of Phoenix, a BA in Humanities from Eastern Illinois University and Matthew is currently pursuing a Master of School Counseling at Lamar University.

Jaime Morrison, Physical Education Teacher

Mr. Morrison “Coach Mo” has been a physical education teacher for 13 years and has coached over 8 different sports for the last 20 years. With a Master’s degree in Physical Education and Sport Exercise Science from the University of Northern Colorado, Coach Mo has taught and coached all grade levels from kindergarten to high school. He is also a guest teacher at the Western State University during the summer for future PE professionals. Additionally he was named as the states future PE professional of the year and young professional of the year.

Sara Nelson, Teacher

Sara Nelson joined CPA in 2015 after teaching for 11 years in brick-and-mortar public schools in grades 6-12. Sara is a Colorado native who earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Curriculum and Instruction in Secondary Education at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Sara holds Colorado teaching certifications in German K-12, social studies 7-12 and English language arts 7-12.

Holly Schopfer, English Teacher

Mrs. Schopfer is the 9th grade English Teacher for CPA. She teaches both 9th grade English and the Creative Writing elective course. This is her second year with K12, and she is thrilled to be a part of the virtual teaching community. Mrs. Schopfer has both a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English, with an emphasis on Secondary Education, and also a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from Colorado Christian University. Mrs. Schopfer also possesses the Highly Qualified Status to teach Secondary Social Studies, per PLACE testing. Mrs. Schopfer has over ten years’ experience of teaching English, Reading Intervention, Digital Literacy, Library Information Skills, American Literature, British Literature, and more. She's taught grades K-12, and truly fits well in the high school sector. Mrs. Schopfer is excited to have all of her students in her courses this year, and looks forward to continued success in this career path.

Ryan Sullivan, Social Studies Teacher

Mr. Sullivan is a high school social studies teacher with 9 years of teaching experience who joined the K12 team in 2014. He graduated from University of Northern Colorado in 2009 with a BA in Education and History. He is currently working on a Master's degree in Educational Leadership at Colorado State University Global Campus.

Ms. De Cino is a high school Advisor who joined the K12 team in 2018. She has over 8 years of experience in education. Andria earned a BA in Liberal Studies from Arizona State University and holds a certificate to teach Early Childhood Education.

Emily Droughns, HS Counselor

Emily Droughns is a counselor for the high school, and has been with Colorado Preparatory Academy since it first opened in 2013. This is her 8th year as counselor; all of which have been spent with K12 schools as an online school counselor. Emily earned her undergraduate degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Colorado State University. She then continued her education and earned an MA in School Counseling from the University of Phoenix.

Colleen Enright, HS Counselor

Ms. Enright is a high school counselor who joined K12 in 2014. She brings over 12 years’ experience in education, serving as a School Counselor and Teacher. Colleen earned her BA in Communications-Recording Arts and MA in School Counseling from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. She also attended the Alternative Licensing Teaching Program at Metro State University. She holds licensures in K-21 School Counseling and K-6 Elementary Education. Additionally, she has training and/or certification as a SPED Staffing Coordinator, 504 Coordinator, Yoga and Spinning Instructor.

Alanna Everett, School Psychologist

Mrs. Everett is a school psychologist joining the K12 team in 2018, with over 10 years’ experience in this role. Mrs. Everett was born in California, grew up in Colorado, and attended both undergraduate and graduate school in Indiana. Mrs. Everett is currently completing her doctorate in Clinical Psychology.

Rachel Meyer Ph.D., School Psychologist

Dr. Rachel H. Meyer is a school psychologist with CPA and PPOS who joined K12 in the fall 2017. She received her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology and Special Education from Temple University, a MA in Community Counseling from John Carroll University and a BA in Psychology from the University of Denver. Prior to joining K12 she was a school psychologist and founding member of DSST-Cole High School in Denver. She also has years of experience working and teaching in higher education and running disability offices.

Lindsey Miller, Family Support Liaison

Mrs. Miller is a Family Support Liaison who joined the CPA team in 2013. She has been working in education for the last 10 years. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Child and Family development and also a Master’s degree in School Counseling (K-12) from California State University Fresno.

Jordan Lamperes, HS Advisor

Ms. Lamperes is a 9th grade advisor who joined the K12 team in 2018. With a fresh eye and a feverish ambition for her new career, Jordan's setting forth on a brand new path in this academic world!

Jennifer Samora, HS Counselor

Ms. Jen Samora is the high school college advisor who joined K12 in 2014. She has over 10 years of experience working in the pre-collegiate arena of education and has specialized in concurrent enrollment. Prior to earning her school counseling degree, she taught Spanish for 2 years at both the high school and middle school level. Jen earned a BA in International Business from Oral Roberts University, and an MA in School Counseling from Adams State University.

Lindsey Silver, Family Academic Support Liaison

Mrs. Silver is a Family Academic Support Liaison (FASL) who joined the K12 team in 2015. She brings more love and excitement to the team than anything else. Her education is from Metropolitan State University where she got her online degree in Behavioral Sciences.

Sarah Sisneros, ELL Coordinator

Ms. Sisneros is the ELL Coordinator who joined the K12 team in 2016. She has a spent her 12 years in education in a collection of diverse schools. Sarah earned her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in English as a Second Language from the University of Northern Colorado in 2007. In 2010, she earned a Master's degree in Educational Leadership with a Principal's License from Regis University.

Rilla Snyder, Family Academic Support Liaison

Mrs. Snyder joined the Family Academic Support Team at CPA in 2014 and has worked for K12 schools for 10 years. She also had two sons in K12 schools and was a Learning Coach for 8 years. Mrs. Snyder began working is education as a preschool substitute teacher in 1999 and returned to school to take Early Childhood Education classes to become a certified preschool teacher

Debra Wadsworth, Family Academic Support Liaison

Mrs. Debbie Wadsworth is a Family Academic Support Liaison. She brings more than 12 years of experience working with families in all different areas of education. Debbie earned a BA in Psychology with a minor in Education and Sociology. She loves working with all kids but especially kids that need extra support and different learning options.

Alison Worker, Family Academic Support Liaison

Mrs. Worker is a member of the Family Academic Support Team program. She enjoys helping coach families to success in school and loves seeing students engage and get excited about growing their brains! Alison has 8 years of experience with K12 working with middle school and high school students. After graduating with 2 BA degrees in English Lit and Psychology, Mrs. Worker enjoyed working in behavioral health, then as a corporate trainer supervisor for America West Airlines and Mayo Clinic.

Kathy Wortley, Family Resource Coordinator

Mrs. Wortley is CPA's Family Resource Coordinator and is in her 10th year of working with K12. Her background is in social work and she has an AA and BSW in Social Work from Olivet University and the Ohio State University. Kathy brings more than 35 years’ experience in social work, education and working with at-risk families and students. She is the former Executive Director of a non-profit in Colorado Springs working in partnership with the Juvenile Justice system mentoring incarcerated youth.
