Student Spotlight: FBLA Club

Colorado Preparatory Academy’s FBLA Club Thrives in Competition and Community
The Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter at Colorado Preparatory Academy continues to thrive, fostering student growth, leadership, and competitive success. Under the leadership of Allison Doe, the program has flourished.
In February, FBLA members competed in district-level events, securing nine top ten finishes. One student immediately earned a spot at the state competition with a fourth place ranking in the social media category, while another later received an invitation. With five students currently preparing for the state competition this April 2025—and more possibly joining—the team is eager to secure places at the national event in California.
However, success is not only about trophies. Many students have grown significantly in confidence and leadership. Some who once shied away from public speaking now embrace the challenge of competition. Others have taken on leadership positions, including one student who began as a chapter officer and has since become both chapter president and a state FBLA officer for Colorado FBLA.
At Colorado Preparatory Academy and Pikes Peak Online School, students gain unique insights into digital communication—an increasingly vital skill in today’s professional world. They engage in projects, competitions, and community service, developing time management abilities akin to those of business professionals. While most collaboration happens online, in-person experiences remain a highlight, including field trips to Hammond’s Candy Factory and the Outlets at Castle Rock. An upcoming visit to Celestial Seasonings Tea will offer students firsthand exposure to real-world business operations.

FBLA provides students with a broad spectrum of competitions that sharpen essential business skills. From digital marketing and public speaking to financial literacy and entrepreneurship, participants gain hands-on experience that prepares them for various career paths. More details about competition categories are available here.

Beyond competing, FBLA members are committed to making a difference. They actively contribute to Richard’s Rubbish Roundup, an initiative that encourages students to clean up their local neighborhoods in Colorado Springs. This effort inspired another impactful project—assembling and distributing care packages filled with essential food and hygiene items to assist the unhoused population.
Many students continue their leadership journey beyond high school. Some pursue FBLA at the collegiate level, inspired by their experiences in the program. Others have launched personal ventures, such as a gourmet chocolate-covered strawberry business and a virtual social group designed for online and homeschooled students.
The teachers who lead the group have noticed immense growth in their students, they want to continue ensuring that every student, no matter their career aspirations, gains valuable skills for the future. FBLA helps shape strong leaders, even qualifying students as gifted and talented based on their leadership achievements.
As students continue to develop, compete, and contribute to their communities, the FBLA chapter at Colorado Preparatory Academy and Pikes Peak Online School stands as a testament to ambition, dedication, and mentorship. Whether they aspire to be astronauts, entrepreneurs, or business executives, this program equips them with the skills and confidence needed to succeed.
