Stories & Spotlights

When you meet Darray, a senior at Colorado Preparatory Academy (CPA), one thing becomes clear immediately: she is an unstoppable force of leadership, service, and initiative. Since joining CPA as a freshman, she has made an extraordinary impact on her school, her district, her state, and the national organizations she serves.

From championing student safety and leading competitive business teams on the national stage, to shaping social change through youth congress work, Darray embodies what it means to use your voice and talents to make a difference.

Now deeply rooted in her CPA community, Darray’s education journey has been anything but static. She grew up in North Colorado Springs near Monument, attended brick-and-mortar school through fourth grade, moved into homeschooling and virtual learning, and even enrolled briefly in a private middle school. From the moment she joined CPA, it felt like the perfect fit.

CPA’s high-quality structure allowed her to pursue leadership at a high level across education, advocacy, and statewide organizations while staying grounded academically and socially.

One of the most meaningful aspects of Darray’s senior year has been her involvement with Safe2Tell Colorado. Safe2Tell Colorado provides a safe, anonymous way to report anything that could harm you, your friends, or your community, empowering people to speak up and prevent tragedies before they happen. She was elected to serve on the Colorado Safe2Tell Youth Ambassador Board. In these roles, she helps spread awareness about student safety, mental health resources, and anonymous reporting, ensuring students across Colorado feel heard, supported, and safe. A standout in business education and competitive leadership, Darray has achieved an outstanding list of honors through FBLA and LifeSmarts:

  • Served as Captain of the CPA + PPOS FBLA Team, leading her team to LifeSmarts Nationals in Chicago in April 2025.
  • Re-elected team Captain for 2026, with goals to return to Nationals.
  • Networked at the ’25 FBLA State Conference and the Colorado Fall Leadership Conference.
  • Placed as a wildcard team and ranked in the Top 20 nationally for the Team Captain Quiz.
  • Became a National Youth Engagement Board Member for LifeSmarts.
  • Won the LifeSmarts Monthly Consumer Rights Challenge (December).
  • Earned the Crown Scholar Award for AAYLC in October.
  • Became Head of the CPA + PPOS FBLA Activities Committee.
  • Elected President of her FBLA chapter and named an A-Star Member for her district.
  • Currently serving as Colorado District 6 Vice President of Communications.

And she’s not done yet! On November 20, 2025, Darray hosted an FBLA Hot Cocoa Holiday Night at the Monument Library, complete with Christmas movies, snacks, arts and crafts, and fun for students of all ages, thanks to support from her advisor, Mrs. Nikia Hunt.

Darray’s commitment to leadership and civic engagement extends far beyond her academic work.

This school year she:

  • Became a member of the Colorado Youth Congress, attending the Fall Retreat focused on social change.
  • Attended a Capitol Tour hosted by District 7 Representative Jen Bacon, learning firsthand about political advocacy and youth engagement.
  • Graduated from Girls State, hosted by the American Legion Auxiliary, where she served as a Health Officer for her city delegation (Courage).
  • Joined the National Honor Society.
  • Participated in the Colorado Springs Walk to End Alzheimer’s with her district officer team.
  • Hosted a Senior Sign-On event at CPA’s Ambassador Mentor Program (AMP). Darray and fellow senior Daniel, were chosen as 2025 camp squad leaders

From representing Colorado Preparatory Academy on national stages to shaping conversations around student safety and civic engagement, Darray has become a powerful voice for positive change, all while uplifting her peers along the way.

CPA is incredibly proud to recognize her outstanding achievements, dedication, and leadership. We can’t wait to see what she does next!
